I know that many of you will have heard that Ann-Marie Bathmaker was knocked off her bike during the Deva Triathlon on Saturday.  But don't worry, Ann-Marie wanted you all to know that the bike seems OK - no scratches and no apparent structural damage whatsoever.  Even the brand new tribars seem to have emerged unscathed.  Of course, one can never tell with a carbon frame... Her bike helmet was shattered by the impact, so there will be a new bit of kit there, and the whole bike will probably have to be replaced anyway.  Oh, and I suppose you wanted to know how Ann-Marie herself was doing?  You will be please to hear that she is in good AMB form despite significant injuries which will require some months of rehabilitation.  Fractured bones, extensive road rash (the lycra is not really protective when you hit the road at 20+mph), but nothing that hardened cyclists haven't come to expect, and believe me, AMB is a hardened cyclist, as the driver of the car will find out soon enough.  The errant car driver had no excuses; fine, clear weather, straight open road, warning signs about the race, lone cyclist, and he hit her from behind.  Amazing.  I am sure that there will be updates on the forum.

After 4 years of waiting, the time had finally come to finally establish who was the “better” triathlete in the Raiment household; at Grendon lakes on Sunday. The sun even came out to celebrate the occasion of Will Raiment returning to the sport after a myriad of injuries!

The water temperature was at a tropical 12.5'C, which was enough for Adele to not turn purple before even entering the water (unlike Bittell last Thursday). The swim went well for both the Raiment’s with husband and wife both exiting the water in the top few of their wave. The bike course was glorious; no wind, the sun was shining and there were lots of fast sections (and a few hills). The run was far from glorious. Like two fish out of water, Will and Adele felt like they were struggling around the course whilst others strode by. [Those who have seen the photos may think otherwise, both looked strong and determined as they appeared to stride effortlessly through the run course ~ Ed].

So once finish lines were crossed which of the Raiment’s could revel in the victory of outperforming the other while washing the dishes for the weeks to come? Will “technically” was the faster triathlete on the day, however, Adele did podium, so the argument is still on going as to who is the “better” triathlete of the Raiment household. The re-match is already booked for the BRAT triathlon on 8th June. - Which Raiment is your money on??

Well done to all the BRATs racing at IM 70.3 Mallorca today. Finish times - see "Read more..." The 70.3 race involved a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike and 21 km run (it is amazing what some people will do to get out of attending the AGM), with winners being awarded slots in the world championships, Las Vegas, later this year. Competition was intense (particularly, I suspect, within the BRATs).
