Blithfield or BRATfield?? BRATs Victorious at Blithfield Sprint and Olympic

It was definitely worth getting up at 05:10 in the morning to cheer on fellow BRATS at the Blithfield Sprint and Standard Distance Triathlon. Blue skies and dry roads were appreciated by all, but the wind made the swim rather too choppy for most peoples liking.

3rd out the swim in the sprint distance was Russ Hall after being chicked (ducked?) by the swimmer who eventually took 2nd place in the lady’s race. However he didn’t let the chicking Russell his feathers, and went onto secure 2nd place overall with a fantastic time of 01:07:47, and suitably “warmed up” for Xterra England in a few weeks.  David Perry followed soon after gaining 4th place, then Duncan Hough took the 11th spot.

In the Olympic distance event, Yaz Chaudri impressed everyone by coming 1st in the 20-24 age group. This was a fantastic achievement for Yaz, especially as she also had to tackle a crash and a mechanical during what was her first pop at a standard distance triathlon. Dale Grassby smashed it coming overall 2nd in a time of 2:02:42.  Karl Welborn made his mark on his first standard distance race coming overall 4th and 1st in his age group and clocking a fantastic 10k time of 32:42 on the run.  Ian Gibson also had a great race, as did Alison Huggan who “enjoyed it all”.

The newly formed and highly acclaimed “BRAT Dream Team” of Sophie Ward and Derek Hardy came 2nd in the relay event, with Sophie securing a fabulous time of  27:13 in the swim. We are expecting great things of you guys in Mallorca next year….!! No pressure!

Well done BRATs. It was great supporting you all. J
