BRAT Success at Worcestershire Summer Series

BRAT enjoyed a number of brilliant finishes within the Worcestershire Midweek Series, a run of four challenging races of varying lengths and terrain along some beautiful courses.

The first race was a 10km multi-terrain race across the Hagley countryside, there was a great BRAT turnout on what was a lovely balmy evening. Simon Lanckham stormed home in first place overall with second BRAT male being Ben Beaumont (13th overall). Molly Browne claimed first women home (9th overall) backed up by a strong second lap from Jen Dale to take the second women spot (32nd overall).

The second race was a testing 12km race through the Arrow Valley Park with some difficult hill climbs. The first BRAT back after a tough two lap course was Molly Browne (7th overall, 1st women), closely followed by Huw Jones (16th), Ben De Laune (27th) and Rosie Davies (40th overall, 2nd women).

The penultimate race bore less mud but no fewer hills, a rather undulating 10km along the roads of rural Droitwich. Molly Browne led the club home and secured the 1st women spot, again chased closely by Huw Jones (24th) and Jen Dale (2nd women) who ran an excellent sub 39 minute race, smashing her previous PB. Mark Connell was the second BRAT man home dipping inside the top 60, a great evening for team BRAT!

The final race which concluded the series and determined the overall finishing positions for the league (best of 3 races) was a 5 mile off road route at Clent. Molly Browne secured the series win with 1st women home (13th overall), with Ben De Laune first BRAT man home (27th overall). Rosie Davies made it a BRAT 1,2 securing 2nd women at Clent and within the league with two 2nd and a 6th place finish, Danielle Bogue had a great run despite a ridiculous number of hours spent at work leading up to the race, she finished 5th overall for the series. Both Louise Beasley and Claire Jackson took their silver medals home for their age groups after a 3rd, 4th and 5th place finish across the series. The men also saw two top 10 finishers; Ben De Laune 9th in the male open, and Martin Ludford 6th in his age group. All in all a fantastic set of results and thoroughly enjoyable races throughout the league, I am sure that BRAT’s will be well represented next year!

Hello BRAT mates. I don’t really want to start talking autumn yet, but I am!

Early call for Midland 6 Stage Road Relays

Sat 24 Sept 1:40, Sutton Park. 6 legs x 5.85k each team.

We can enter as many teams as we want to pay for, and everyone is welcome regardless of standard. Teams are selected in anticipated order of speed, so any new boy concerned about being thrown on A team first leg can relax. The race attracts fast and slow, young and old, too thin and too fat, 800 to marathon runners. Give it a go and I bet you get a good time out of it.

There is also an open age category Masters within the same race, but we make Senior Champs our priority, so only those not selected for the first two teams would be considered for Masters.

First 25 finishing teams qualify for The National Champs on 8 October at the same venue, and our aim will be to qualify two teams. The National is a selection event.

I have to enter number of teams and squad by 4 September, so please let me know well before that. I am going to be away, so if you decide later in the month you will not get a response from me until the start of September.

I will need from everyone: English Athletic completion number (you tick this box at BRAT club renewal), membership must be paid up to date (shows on EA database when I submit entry), and your DOB

Any questions please ask me this week.
