County Championships - Junior Races

Well done to our juniors who competed at the Warwickshire County Championships. The Course was a good test for our athletes with mud, hills and a muddy ditch to contend with.

Ines Villalobos Finigan finished 24th in the U13 Girls. Peter Kippax finished 14th in the U15 Boys and Sam Barber (pictured) finished 5th in the U17 Men’s race.

Congratulations also to Kelton Aldridge who finished 7th in the Under 20 Men’s race.

This is Sam’s first cross-country season and he has made a great start. His dedication and hard work is certainly paying off.

2017 has officially kicked off! Back to Leamington, this time with the ditch for the Warwickshire County Champs.

BRAT put out both a strong seniors and masters team, and had an additional runner in the Worcestershire champs. The two lap course offered some difficult muddy terrain and of course the infamous ditch, but that didn’t stop 9 hardy BRAT ladies donning their spikes and accepting the challenge. It was all smiles and laughter on the start line, then once the gun went game faces were on! Anne Kenchington had the run of her life to secure herself the title of Warwickshire County Champion, she was followed in by Helena Eastham who again had a tremendous run to gain herself the Warwickshire Bronze Medal. Molly Browne followed closely with a 2nd place in the Worcestershire race. It was a flurry of BRAT vests thereafter with Sarah Hinksman in next to be the first Masters Women home in an impressive 9th place. Eloise Lee despite an awful chest infection took one for the team and with a gutsy run for a 17th place finish put BRAT in silver medal position in the team standings. Helen Pike had a fab run for 17th masters women and Cat Bone returned to racing with a bang in 32nd putting BRAT masters in a brilliant 7th place overall. Claire Jackson and Catherine McNicholl had great runs in the tough conditions to finish a fantastic 41st and 51st.

The atmosphere was brilliant, with loads of family and friends supporting. It was great having the Men’s race straight afterwards, plenty of BRATs to cheer us on and great fun cheering all of the men once we had finished. Next race is the Women’s League in Wolverhampton on 14th January, let Eloise and Molly know if you wish to run! No experience needed, and absolutely everyone is welcome – what more could you want from a Saturday afternoon than a run around in some mud!

Men's Cross Country League - race 2

Hosted by Tipton Harriers, the second Birmingham League Div 1 race took place at Sandwell Valley on 3rd December.

Firstly special thanks to Harry Fowler and Stuart Male for volunteering to do finish line duties for the League and the Club. These duties have to be covered for every League race, so if anyone is injured or feels like sitting a race out at any time please consider taking on one of these roles for an afternoon, it's an interesting way to be involved in the event, and it saves us being penailsed for not supplying someone to help the race officials - please ask me if you have any questions about this.

As for the racing, well done everyone, really good performances all round giving strong team results. It was also good to see more new faces getting involved, hope you enjoyed it lads!

The A team were 7th with 312 points, this moves us up to 7th place overall out of the 16 teams. The B team scored 817 to finish 6th in the B team competition, and now lie 6th overall. These are great results for the Club guys, well done!  Let's make sure we keep things going in the New Year.
