An exellent weekend for 2 BRAT athletes. David Lima, still recovering from the jet lag from his return from Brazil, competed in the Loughborough International meeting on May 22nd in the 200m and in winning the event equalled his own club record in a time of 20.60s, just an agonising 0.1s over the Olympic Qualifying time.


Meanwhile competing in the now prestigious Highgate Harriers Night of 10,000m races, which incorporated the English National Championships, Dan Robinson broke his own masters club record in a time of 32:14.40.

Competing for Portugal in the annual Ibro American Championships in the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro from May 14-16th, which this year also served as the test event for the forthcoming summer Olympic Games, David Lima competed in the 200m and qualified in the heat with 20.87s and 20.79s in the semifinal, before coming 7th in the final in 20.88s from the unfavourable inside lane.

Outstanding performances by the small number of BRATs contesting this weekend’s county championships were achieved by Jonathan Briggs and Tia Alexander. Jonathan broke his own U20M Hammer club record with a mighty throw of 49.17m in finishing 2nd, and then followed this up with wins in a pb of 42.18m in the Discus and 12.45m in the Shot Put. Tia broke a long standing U20W Long Jump record with 5.39m which also exceeded the senior record.


Other notable performances were recorded by Jordan Foley with a pb of 13.33m in the senior Triple Jump, James Colclough with wins in both the 200m in 24.6s and 400m in 53.7s in the masters category, Hugo Villalobos Finigan who had a very busy day in the U15B age group with a win in the 800m in 2m 14.26s and 4thg places in the 200m in 26.35s and 300m in 41.28s.  New member Samuel Barber demonstrated his potential in running a pb in the U17M 800m in a time of 2m 07.73s, finishing 3rd.


Other finalists were Petra Bediako 6th in the  100m in 13.36s and 5th in the 200m in 27.58s and Pavidra Sivanandarajah 8th in the 100m in 14.22s and 6th in the 200m in 29.55s in the senior races and Cat Goulder-Davies who came 4th in the Masters 200m in 28.6s. Kevin Samuels came 3rd in the senior 400m in 54.35s.

Competing in the NTC/Pure Athletics Spring |invitational meeting in Clermont, Florida on April 30th, David Lima smashed the BRAT club 100m record and recorded a personal best of 10.29s in the 100m, finishing second.

David has now been selected by Portugal to take part in the Ibroamerican championships in Rio de Janeiro, which will serve as the Olympic test event later in the season.
