Golly It's Molly - Fast 5000's

A month after setting a new club record of 17:26.5 for 5000m, Molly Browne prepared for action once again last night at Yate (in Avon-shire) in the Night of the Fast 5000's event.

This inaugural event hosted by Bristol and West was an evening of paced 5000m track races with a series of races at times from 14:30 to 22:30, and judging by the popularity - it was a sell out - it will become a regular fixture in the calendar.
It was a cool but fairly calm evening and at 7:35pm the lap board was again reset  to 12 and the gun was fired to start the D-race. The pacemaker moved to the front and the athletes dutifully formed a large group behind.
The group was moving with metronomic regularity at 82/83 secs a lap as the board  counted down 11-10-9-8-7-6-5 and 3000m was reached in 10:20.
The race was holding together as the pacemaker dropped out and the athletes went into the final 2k. Even without the pacemaker the pace continued unabated and the board continued to change 4-3-2. A big final 800m saw Molly home in 17:16.xx  to revise the BRAT club record for the second time this season. (tenths of second to be confirmed)
A great event, well organised and one to consider for next year for any budding or seasoned 5000m athletes.
