Midland Track and Field League

On a balmy afternoon in Nottingham this Saturday, the BRAT track and field team took part in the second league meeting of the 2016 season. Having finished fourth in Tamworth at the beginning of May we were hoping to push on and grab a top three finish this time out.

Unfortunately, our total of 327 points on the day meant that we finished fourth again only 30 points off top spot.

This small gap is made more frustrating as we had several gaps in the men's team which, had they been filled, would have gained us enough extra points to move up at least a couple of places... what might have been!

Performances of the day must go to; Jonny Briggs for two 'A' category wins in the shot and discus, plus a under 20 club record in the hammer (we're he finished second), Sam Hart for an unusual hat-trick, three wins in the 'B' categories of shot, discus and javelin. Alex Clegg won the 'A' javelin, whilst Molly Browne won the 'A' 3000 metres (plus ran the best leg of the day in the 400 relay!)

Other winners were Carwyn Jones in the 'B' high jump, Katrina Walker in the 'B' sprint hurdles and Alessandra Rossi in the ladies 'B' high jump. Must make special mentions to Sam Barber and Eva Gunn who made their senior club debuts and to Alex Jessett, another recent recruit to the club, who throw the javelin for the first time since leaving school and managed second in the 'A' stream.

Thank you to all of the above and indeed to everyone who gave up their time and put up such a good fight.

We travel over to Tipton on Sunday 3rd July for the next meeting - can anyone reading this please make the effort to make themselves available. We are in a relegation dogfight so every event needs to be filled as every single point will count.

The day's results can be found here.
