BMC Track Meeting - Tipton 29th August

Saturday 29th August saw seven BRATs in action at the final BMC Meeting of the season at Tipton. A warm but fairly calm afternoon proved ideal conditions for an excellent afternoon of racing including seven 800's, five 1500's two 3ks and culminating in a grand finale 10k.

First up was Jonny Costello making his track debut in the 800m G-race. The target was 2:20 and Jonny (pictured below sticking to the pacemaker like glue) ran a perfectly executed race hitting the bell in around 67 before powering on to cross the line in first place with a time of 2:19.8.

Richard Bayliss was in the 800m D-race. Although a member of Bournville Richard runs for BRAT in the T&F League. Richard was well in the mix all the way and held his form to the line. His effort was well rewarded with a seasons best of 2:05.7 just outside his PB. An excellent finish to the season.

Next up were Rob Dowse and Nick Seagrave in the 1500m E-race. Nick and Rob put in some solid teamwork in the first two laps before Rob shrugged off his calf injury to push on in lap three. A strong final lap brought Rob home in a seasons best 5:09.0 with Nick chasing hard and just missing a seasons best in 5:19.7.

Huw Jones (pictured below at the bell) was the second debutant of the day, and not to be outdone by Jonny also ran a perfectly executed race. The target was 10 minutes and Huw ran near-on perfect 80 second laps before a final lap surge brought him home inside 10 minutes - exact time to be confirmed. He probably will not thank me for this but even more remarkable when you consider Huw is an MV50 !

The final race - the 10k over 25 laps - had three BRATs on the line. Abayomi Adedimeji making a welcome return from injury, Ed Banks and Dan Robinson. It should be noted that Dan (pictured below in "Take Off Position") had earlier run in the 3000m A-race and both he and Ed were using the afternoon as training prep for another 10k track race next Saturday at Trafford - good luck in that one boys. The pace was being set by Tipton's Martin Williams but Ed decided to hang back and run his own race. Just behind Ed both Dan and Abayomi also settled in quickly as they prepared for the long haul. One by one by one the laps started to tick down. At about two-thirds distance Ed decided to make a move. Although he was around 100m off the lead, in the closing laps he successively wound up the pace and caught and passed the leaders finishing with a 74 sec final lap to win in 32:24.8. Meanwhile the metronomes called Dan and Abayomi were still knocking out consistent laps. Dan came home in 36:56.4 and Abayomi obliterated his PB slicing over three minutes off to finish in 38:45.4
