Martin Ludford and Geoff Mann, Cross Country Team Managers

The Midland XC relays took place at Walsall and we entered teams in the event for the first time in several years. The 6k course was over fields at the back of the Arboretum and was a good opportunity for people to try out pairs of newly purchased spikes and to get reacquainted with grass and mud, though in fact the going was firm and pretty fast, not to mention the warm sun - most atypical!

Women (Geoff Mann manager): Three brat teams were entered, two senior woman and a masters team, three ladies to a team covering 6km each. The brat A team finished in an excellent 7th place, B team18th and the masters finished 8th.Times are below. Thanks to all who ran. Next race is at Leamington on the 9th Nov where we hope for a bit of cold and mud !! Men (Martin Ludford manager): As you will see, the results make it look as though the team selection was done by ERNIE (manager’s apologies for this) but clearly lots of our guys really rose to the occasion and it made for an interesting race. The real surprise package was Dave Smithers whose time was only 12 seconds outside the best BRAT time of the day posted by Richard Gray. Good work by the rest of the guys kept both our complete teams about mid way in the field. In the end BRAT A finished 18th and BRAT B finished 19th out of 35 complete teams in the senior race. Martin Cleaver wins the prize for the most impressive blisters of the day.

Thanks to all who turned out to run and to support. As an opener to the season this was good experience for new and old BRATs alike and we are now looking forward to the start of the League campaign in November at Leamington.
