A number of triathletes begin with a lack of confidence or skills in freestyle (me included) and have trouble making that first step up into the coached swim sessions.

Coaches are happy to help where they can, but they aren't instructors specialising in teaching freestyle technique from scratch and it's further complicated by trying to lead multiple lanes at once.

Our proposed solution is to offer, in the Autumn, 6 weeks of structured lessons, aimed at the same squad of swimmers, where you can develop your skills and confidence together. The exact details and costs will follow, and we're not asking for a 100% commitment at this point, but it would be helpful to gauge interest.

Current expectation is running September-October, 4-5pm on a Sunday at King Edwards Camp Hill in Kings Heath, price around £60 for the course (6x1 hour lessons).

If you're interested please sign up on the club forum under the Training > Swim section. If there is enough interest we'll firm up dates and costs.

BRAT Club webpage on the BGSC website: www.sailingbarntgreen.com/events/BRATS.htm.  NEW BRATCLUB ID CARD SYSTEM FOR OPEN WATER SWIMMING: We are trying a new system to ensure that all our open water swimmers are safe and accounted for at each open water swimming session. All open water swimmers must be paid up BRAT club members. Everyone who wishes to swim must have their BRAT Club card with current photo (automatically generated with payment of your 2013 membership - LOGIN and click on the MEMBERSHIP CARD  button under the USER MENU on the right). You must bring your membership card with you to every open water swim session - no card, no swim, no exceptions. The BRAT Club membership card must be given to the designated volunteer observer before going swimming and collected again after swimming. Failure to collect your card may mean that your next of kin is contacted - and cause unnecessary heartache!
