BRATs in the South Training: you don't have to be a member for this!

Welcome to the "BRATs in the South", David Lloyd and Triathlon England triathlon training page!

BRATs in the South training sessions are the result of a partnership between the BRAT Club, David Lloyd Bromsgrove and Triathlon England.  We aim to provide high quality triathlon training supervised by qualified BRAT and TE coaches.

  1. Register: If you are a first time participant you will need to register by setting up a username and password which you will then input each time you return to book.  Once you have registered, you will only need your username and password each time.
  2. Paypal: If you are not a David Lloyd member you will also need a Paypal account to pay for your classes.
  3. If a session is booked out, please click on the "REGISTER MY INTEREST" link to allow us to plan for the future.
  4. Please note that, about 24 hours before a session, all unbooked places will be released into a shop section called "24b4" for any registered participant to book about 24 hours before a session.

Check out the Facebook page "BRAT Club Bromsgrove and Redditch" for updates

*NEW* The "24b4" open bookings section: 24 hours before a Triathlon Swim or Spin class at David Lloyd Bromsgrove, all unfilled places will be opened up for booking by any registered participant.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

 1. What does it cost?

  1. This is a trial scheme, and it is being subsidized by all of the partners.
  2. There is no additional fee for David Lloyd members (the cost is already covered in their membership subscription).
  3. For everyone else (i.e. not David Lloyd members), the costs of the coaching will be covered on a “fee per session” basis (see details in the table above).
  4. The prices will be reviewed during the trial scheme.

2. How do I book or cancel a place at a training session?

  1. Due to a limited number of places, everyone must book a place at each session, whether you are a member of David Lloyd or not.
  2. Booking can be done by clicking on the links in the session programme above.
  3. Bookings for each session will become available 7 days before that session.
  4. There will be a number of places reserved for David Lloyd members and for non-members.
  5. CANCELLATIONS: If you have to cancel, please notify us as soon as you can – your fee may be refunded if we can fill your place.

3. Who is it for?

  1. We aim to provide a friendly and effective training experience for everyone, whether you have never done a triathlon or are already an experienced triathlete (please also see “Restrictions” below).
  2. David Lloyd members, BRAT Club members and members of the general public are welcome.
  3. No participant is expected to become a member of any club, but we hope that you will enjoy the training so much that you will at least consider becoming a member of one or both clubs and Triathlon England.

4. Are there any restrictions? Of course, there have to be some sensible restrictions:

• Safety:

  1. We expect all participants to train safely, for themselves and for others.
  2. We expect you to be healthy enough to participate in the sessions without endangering your health.
  3. If you are not sure, please check with your local doctor / GP surgery.

• Swimming and cycling skills

  1. The sessions are all about improving your skills and fitness to enable you to complete a triathlon safely and efficiently.
  2. We do expect that you will have the basics already – we are not going to teach anyone to swim or ride a bike from scratch.
  3. If you aren’t able to swim several pool lengths of front crawl, or ride a bike safely on the road by yourself, then this is not for you.

• Children (under 16 in 2012):

  1. These sessions are not designed for children, although exceptions might be made for older children in agreement with the coaches.
  2. All our coaches are CRB checked.
  3. We also comply with the codes of good practice for coaching children from the UK governing bodies of sport, which usually recommend "child specific training sessions" which could be implemented at a later date if there is enough demand.

5. Which triathlon am I going to do?

  1. We aim to get everyone to a level ready to complete either the supersprint or sprint distance races at the BRAT Birmingham Triathlon festival on 20th May 2012.
